Sacramento Moving Company Gives Interviewing Tips

Unless your resume catches the interviewer's eye in 10 seconds it's over, says Brent Larson, Manager at TWOMEN AND A TRUCK, San Francisco. The big question is how do I catch the interviewer's eye? Here’s the best advice on how to get a job interview from Larson who does all the interviewing at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, San Francisco.

Cater your resume to the job description. “I can't stress this point enough. It's imperative that you cater your resume to each position you apply for” says Larson. “I mean taking each line on the job description and writing a line on your resume to reflect your experience with regard to that line.”

Yes, it takes more time than sending the same resume to hundreds of jobs, but you're far better off applying to a fraction of those jobs with a resume specifically written for each job. Put yourself in the hiring manager’s shoes. Their job is to hire the most qualified candidate so you want to make sure that your resume shows that.

Once you’ve got the interview, there are still several factors to keep in mind.

Be on time to the interview. Always show up 10-15 minutes before your interview starts. This is very impressive to the hiring manager.

Know the company. Google the company you're interviewing for. Learn as much as you can about the company's mission statement, objectives, goals, and future plans. If you're asked why you want to work for the company, answer something better then, “I like the company's location.”

Always bring a copy of your resume. They will likely have a copy of your resume, but bring spares. It shows you're prepared and serious about getting the job.

Very few people bring a notepad with them to a job interview. It's a very subtle thing that makes you stand out. Take notes when appropriate.

Make sure you go into a job interview having showered and wearing clean clothes. If you like wearing cologne or perfume, don't wear any on the day of the interview. What's subtle smelling to you may be overwhelming to your interviewer.

At the end of the job interview make sure you have some questions to ask. If the interviewer doesn't offer you a chance, ask to ask. Again, it reinforces your strong interest in the job.

t's easy to send an email but take the extra effort to mail your interviewer a hand written thank you note. It reinforces your interest in the job. It doesn't need to be long, just make it sincere.

There you have it. The best job interview tips you'll ever get from Brent Larson, Manager at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, San Francisco. Stick to them and you'll be on your way to getting hired.

The Secrets Of Coffee Making From Sacramento Movers

There’s no better way to get the morning started than with a good cup of coffee. Everyone has his or her preferences when it comes to coffee. Some prefer coffee black, some like a cup of tall diet coffee with a pinch of espresso and cinnamon added for additional flavor.  For those who want to start making coffee from home or for those who’ve been making their own coffee for years… these secret coffee making tips will spice up any cup of coffee.

Use whole coffee beans and grind them yourself, rather than using pre-ground coffee. Coffee beans retain freshness much longer than ground coffee and freshness equates to greatness with coffee.

Once coffee is roasted it begins to expire. So while you may be tempted to grab a bag from the nearby grocery store, buying from a professional roaster may be worth going out of your way for. Coffee that comes from a professional roaster will be much more fresh, leading to a far superior cup of coffee. You can buy from professional roasters online or from your local coffee shop.

We all know how easy and “economical” it is to buy coffee in bulk. This works if you go through it quickly. However coffee goes stale within1-3 weeks so you don’t want to buy in bulk if you won’t use it up in that amount of time.

While many believe in freezing their coffee to retain freshness, this should not be done! If you freeze your coffee it will begin to take on the scent and flavor of all the other food you’ve got in there. Instead, keep it at room temperature in an airtight container.

Have you ever tried using a French press to make your coffee? Maybe it’s time to give it a try. Why? This style of coffee-brewing enables the coffee and water to have a longer amount of contact without boiling the coffee. Can you say dark coffee?

Put these secrets to practice, add your cinnamon and cream and enjoy the best cup of home-made coffee. Now all you need is your newspaper and your morning is off to a fresh, tasty, energized start.

Our Sacramento Moving Company employs a staff of over 40 Full-Time Movers and Drivers, with a fleet of 10 trucks. Sacramento Movers Give Tips On How To Be Safe On The River

First and foremost of course is common sense. Respect the water and be aware of its power says Heather Brown at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. Wear sun block and bring plenty of drinking water, it gets HOT out there!! The Following tips are some things you may not have thought about.

Make sure someone knows where you are… and when you’ll return. This will alert someone if you don’t return as expected.

When you are in white waters be aware of the limits of you and anyone else that is with you.

Wear your life vest… at all times.

Never go 2 at a time into a channel, let one watercraft pass through at a time; this prevents two boats from getting stuck in the channel.

Wear proper footwear, going barefoot is very dangerous on the river.

Always have a first aid kit nearby… and seriously consider having at least one in the group who knows CPR.

Be prepared for extreme weather; educate yourself on the symptoms and treatments of both hypothermia & heat exhaustion.

Make sure the path is clear before running a rapid.

If you’re not sure of the waters, your capability or your safety, don’t risk it.

Eat lightly prior to any strenuous swimming, the heat can deplete your energy quickly—fruit and lots of water are recommended.

Wear sun block and reapply often throughout the day.

Do A GREEN Move! Sacramento Movers Talk About How Your Move Can Be Be Eco-Friendly

Moving can be stressful enough without having to worry about the negative effects it could possibly have on the environment. That’s why our Sacramento Moving Company is doing its part, so that you can have stress-free, green move.

Our Sacramento Moving Company has been recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency for our efforts to improve the environmental performance of our freight operations as a SmartWay Transport Partner.

We also offer reusable plastic totes that can be rented out for moves, which cuts down on the amount of cardboard boxes and tape needed for packing. Learn more here.

We’ve partnered with Trees For The Future (http://www.plant-trees.org) to give back to the eco-system. For those who do move with us, upon completion of the move we encourage our customers to fill out a short Customer Satisfaction Reply Card to give us feedback on how their move went. As our way of thanking customers for moving with us and for giving their feedback, we plant a tree through Trees For The Future. Read more about our partnership here.

What can you do to move green? Thoroughly de-clutter your home before the move to ensure that less is being packed, reducing the amount of packing materials needed—which also saves you money. If you have the time to organize your belongings and start packing a few weeks before the move, you will be able to pack more efficiently, again reducing the wasted space in moving boxes. If you’re not sure you can pack efficiently, consider using a professional packing service to do the job. When cleaning both the old home and the new, why not start fresh using eco-friendly cleaning products? And don’t forget to recycle or reuse packing materials after the move.

Quest to win $10,000 for Make-A-Wish

We need Your Help!!!

Our location has been competing in the Business Journal's Social Media Contest for almost a month now.  We are in the final round for regionals and the next round puts competitors up against one another from the nation.  There will be 64 teams in total that make the National Round - and we plan on being one of them.

It hasn't been easy for us.  We had 3000 points taken away from us because the Business Journal felt that we had "bots" following us- which is against the rules, and as such, we had lost all of our points accumulated through our Twitter account.

This was a blow for us, as those points could of placed us among the average score of the 63 other teams.  Now, with this setback, we have to work even harder at getting people to "like" and "follow" us.  And your votes are appreciated too!

The winner of this competition will receive a $10,000 donation from the Business Journal in their name.  And we have decided that in the event that our company should win, we will be donating the money to the Make-A-Wish foundation in honor of Katie Snyir, who is 8 years old and is a Cancer survivor.

Katie was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, also known as ALL, on May 18, 2009.

After months of numerous treatments, procedures, and chemotherapy at Children’s Hospital of UPMC in Lawrenceville, Katie’s doctors determined that her cancer was more aggressive then what was first diagnosed. Their recommendation was for Katie to receive a bone marrow transplant, in which an exhaustive search for a match ended with Katie’s two-year-old brother, Jacob being a match. A hard decision for Katie and Jacob’s parents followed. On December 10, 2009, Katie received her brother’s bone marrow and while Jacob bounced back quickly, Katie still struggled.

Over a year later, Katie was declared Cancer Free.  (See pictures here)

And because of Make-A-Wish, Katie and her family got the chance to go to Walt Disney World at no expense to them.  And now, we would like to help pay Make-A-Wissh back for their generosity.

We need you all to Like. Follow. Share. Forward. And Vote.

Please got to our website:  www.twomensacramento.com for more details and for the link to vote.

Sacramento Moving Company Gives Advice On How to Choose a Water Softener

Water softeners are used to remove harsh minerals from hard water says Brent Larson, manager of TWO MEN AND ATRUCK San Francisco. The number of minerals present in the water makes it "hard." When hard water is moving through pipes, it can easily cause build-ups and clogs due to the minerals depositing on the pipe surfaces. Soap can't dissolve in hard water. Many people use water softeners to break up the minerals and improve the movement and condition of the water. When you're choosing a water softener product, there are several attributes that you must consider.

First, figure out how hard your water is. Do this with a water testing kit. This kit will test to see how much magnesium, calcium and other minerals are present in the water. The harder your water is, the more water softeners you will need to use in your reservoir to eliminate the unwanted minerals. Harder water may require a softener with more sodium chloride.

Second, choose a water softener that is easy to clean. The main difference between softeners is the solubility (how the softener product dissolves in water). A solar salt water softener is naturally created---it is evaporated from salt water and is sold as crystals or pellets that are only slightly soluble. Rock salt softener is cheap, but it is not very soluble at all, so you have to clean out your pipes and reservoir system more often. Evaporated salt is best if you don't want to do regular reservoir cleanings because it has plenty of sodium chloride (99%) and is more soluble. Ask residents who live in the vicinity of the property what type of water softener they use to break down hard water. This is one of the best ways to determine what type of water softener you should use.

Sacramento Movers Want You To Have Fun In The Sun, Safely

Barring becoming a hermit and living in a cave, we can’t totally avoid being exposed to the sun. Nor should we try, says Heather at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Sacramento. There are some ways that we can enjoy the sun and physical outdoor activity while reducing our risk of the damaging effect of UV Rays.

Sun Protection is not only for days off spent at the beach or pool. We ought to protect our skin daily. Too much exposure can lead to a preventable problem like skin cancer.

The steps are simple and easy.

Cover your skin: Wear clothing to cover as much skin as possible. Understandably, we tend to wear less clothing in the heat of summer. Find a balance you can live with. And if you can protect your skin with clothing while still having summer fun, do so.
Covering up doesn't block out all UV rays. Clothing that you can see through does allow UV rays through also.

Use Sunscreen. Using sunscreen, like wearing more clothes, should not be considered a cure all. While it does help, different forms provide different protection. Read the labels. When deciding on a sunscreen , be sure to read the label before you purchase. Many groups, including the American Academy of Dermatology, recommend products with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. And remember, no sunscreen protects you completely.

Wear something on your head, like a hat Wearing a hat with a brim all the way around is ideal because it offers protection to your ears, forehead and even your neck all at once.

Wear sunglasses that block UV rays. Something we often don’t even think of, but long unprotected exposure to the sun, is a leading cause of eye disease. Check the individual sunglasses for the UV protection level.

Avoid the direct sun during high noon. The sun’s rays are often strongest mid day; take this into account when planning outdoor activities.

How To Find A Reputable Moving Service Company

Moving is a very stressful experience and if you don't take precautions, it can quickly turn into a nightmare. So how do you find a moving company that you can trust with everything that you own and feel safe in your decision?

The first thing that you should do is to use a variety of ways to help you make your decision. The internet, friends, family, phone book and real estate agents are the best sources for referrals.

Then find at least three moving companies that have offices in your area. Try to find moving companies that have been in business at least seven years, and do not hire a moving broker. Current consumer protection laws related to the movement of household goods only apply to Motor Carriers and not to Household Goods Brokers.

Set up appointments for a representative at each of those three moving companies to come to your house and do an in-home estimate. The best way to do this is in the order of your least favorite to your most favorite company. Most reputable companies will do this for free, however some may have dwelling size minimums so before having them come out, so make sure to ask.

Ask questions about the difference in pricing since it may have to do with what services one company provides that another doesn't. The amount of insurance included, or valuation of your belongings are also good things to ask about. Never hire a mover who gives you a quote based on cubic feet. Never, ever sign blank paperwork, and know what you're signing. Read the document, understand it and don't worry about making the moving company wait.

You should know that every moving company is required by law to provide you with a "Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move" booklet. If they don't provide you with this, send them packing (so to speak).

Also, while you have the sales rep's attention, get as much information about the company that you can such as:
  • Full company name and any DBA names (doing business as)
  • How long they have been in business
  • Company address
  • Phone numbers (local and toll-free)
  • Company web site address
  • DOT and MC license numbers
  • Email addresses
  • References

Sacramento Moving Company Gives Helpful Advice On How To Move Your Dogs And Cats

Jenny Allan, move consultant at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK moving company, gives helpful tips on how to move with pets. Pets can be easily stressed, so here are a few tips on how to make the move with your pets as easy for you and for them as possible.

     Before the Move

·        Remember to update pet’s tags and information with the new address and contact information as soon as possible.
·        Visit the veterinarian to get a physical and a copy of the pet’s medical history.

     During the Move

·        Keep pets contained when movers are present and while traveling to prevent injuries or runaway animals.
·        For different pets there are certain things to do to make the pet comfortable in their new surroundings. For example with cats, it’s good to surround them with familiar objects such as feeding and water bowls, toys, blanket or bed.

     After the Move

·        Restrict your pet to one or two rooms to get use to their new surroundings before letting them explore the whole house.
·        For dogs, it may be better to leave them outside until they are comfortable with their new surroundings.

From the best dog parks in the Sacramento area to summer camp for dogs to Meetup groups, you won’t want to miss these great opportunities for your pet.

While walks around the neighborhood or to a nearby park are always a great idea, why not check out some new scenery? CBS Sacramento compiled a list of the 4 best places to take your dog in the area. This camp runs for 5 weeks from mid-July to mid-August and dogs can attend for one day, one week, or for the duration of camp. Each day has a different theme such as splash pools, bug quest, doggy relay, luau, and tug-o-war. This camp’s goal is to bring together dogs of all shapes and sizes to have fun.

Still want more fun with the canine? Join a Meetup group centered around pets. Meetup.com features several great groups for dog owners including a Dog Activity Play and Agility Group, Dog Lovers and Hiking Hounds of Sacramento, and the Cordova Dog Parks Meetup Group.
