Sacramento Movers Share How To Move A Shed

If you’re making some changes in the back yard and need to move a shed across the lawn, follow a few simple steps:

  • Reinforce the windows and door of the shed prior to relocating it.
  • Decide the place you wish to position the shed before beginning to maneuver it. Select a spot where the terrain is level, dry, clear, and not likely to flood or become muddy when it rains.
  • Build a basic foundation for the shed if it needs one.
  • If you're moving the shed from one section of the backyard to another, clean up a path from its present position to its desired destination.
  • Empty the shed to make it as light-weight as possible.
  • To move the shed across the lawn, elevate it a few inches off the ground using a jack in each corner.
  • Create a track for the shed to roll on by lying down a lengthy wooden plank under each side of the shed, a few feet in from its edges. Lay enough track to cover the whole distance, or lay two lengths of wood end-to-end and plan to move the rear panels towards the front as needed.
  •  Slide lengths of 4-inch PVC tube underneath the front, center and backside of the shed, perpendicular to the track, with about three feet of pipe extending past the shed on each side.
  •  Lower the shed onto the pipes and recruit pals to help you push it along the track. When it rolls clear of the back tube, place that tube under the front. If you laid down couple of lengths of wood for a track, move the rear lengths to the front each time the shed progresses clear of them. Push gradually and take care not to trip over the sides of the tube rollers. Carry on in this way until you reach your destination.

If you need to move a shed a longer distance, use a licensed, registered trailer to transport your shed. Check your local towing laws for information on the additional trailer lights necessary as well as other regulations to ensure that you can legally tow your shed yourself. When you have set up the trailer according to local regulations, if the shed is light enough for you and a few friends to lift, elevate it to the height of the trailer bed on jacks and then lift or push it onto the bed. Fasten it to the trailer with sturdy rope or chain and tow the trailer slowly to its destination. If the shed is too heavy for you to lift or too wide for you to tow, hire professionals to winch it onto a specially designed shed trailer and tow it for you.
