Sacramento Movers Give 7 Tips For Organizing The Closet After A Move

Just after moving into a new home is one of the best opportunities to give your closet a fresh start. Closets can become so full of clothing, shoes, handbags, books, and many other odds and ends that you can’t remember what all is stored in there. Closets periodically need to be weeded out and outdated items or articles of clothing that no longer fit are given up for some extra space. When it’s time to move begin with weeding out these unessential items, then be careful how you use space in the new closet to prevent it from becoming cluttered.

1. De-clutter. Weed out items from the old closet that you no longer use. Turn all your hangers backwards and write down the date of when you did so. Six months later, any clothing on hangers that are still backwards (meaning you never pulled the item out to wear it) should be donated to charity. Any out of season clothing can be placed in a storage container or suitcase and kept out of the way.

2. Clothing. When organizing a new closet, begin with what a closet normally contains: clothing. If possible, use all of the same type and color of hanger to create a uniform look. Next, organize by style of clothing, placing all outerwear together, dresses together, then shirts, then pants or skirts. You can make it easier to find items by lining them up by color from lightest to darkest.

3. Shoes. There are many ways to organize shoes. They can be stored in over-the-door pouches, lined up along the shelf above the hanger rod or placed in storage cubbies made specifically for shoes. The method you use for storing shoes will depend upon the space available and the amount of shoes to be stored.

4. Accessories. This could include purses, hats, belts, scarves, or ties. A great way to store purses is simply to line them up next to each other on a shelf using storage dividers. Hats can be stored in boxes or storage shelves. Scarves can be lined up and draped along the bottom rung of a regular hanger or you can use a custom tie and belt hanger for which also works for scarves.

5. Jewelry. For ladies, jewelry is often kept in a jumbled heap inside a box. There are two great ways to improve upon this storage solution. The first option is ultra-organized. Use storage boxes with adjustable cell dividers and place necklaces in on box, each separated in its own cubby and earrings in another box again with each pair in a separate cubby. The second option is to display jewelry as a decoration. There are many ways to do this. One option is to use a shadowbox frame and insert little pegs into the back. You can then string necklaces or earrings over each peg and hang the frame on the wall of the closet or bedroom. Jewelry trees are another great idea, though often do not hold enough items.

6. Dresser. Store miscellaneous clothing items such as t-shirts, athletic wear, socks, hosiery and underwear in dresser drawers. T-shirts and athletic wear should follow the same principle as the closet, keeping similar styles together and color coordinating each piece so that it is easy to find what you are looking for.

7. Extra Storage. If you have abundant space in the closet after all the wardrobe essentials have found a home, you can also store books or magazines lined up along closet shelves, or use the closet to store suitcases, or even office supplies such as a laptop and camera. Just remember to keep frequently used items in plain sight, occasionally used items down low, and rarely used items high in the closet.

Sacramento Movers Share Tips On Preparing and Moving Pool Tables

If you have a pool table to move, most moving companies may not have the training or tools necessary to handle this specialty item. Your best bet for moving a pool table is likely to hire movers specializing in the removal of pool tables and pay about $200-$600 for the service. Two pool table movers in the Sacramento area are Pool Table Taxi and Sacramento Pool Table Movers. Be sure to make sure any pool table moving company you hire is highly rated with the Better Business Bureau and are fully licensed. Alternately you may opt to disassemble, transport, and re-assemble the pool table yourself. In that case, be sure you are familiar with the proper steps for preparing and moving a pool table.

Ask a few of your friends to come over for an hour or so to give you a hand with moving the pool table.  The weight of this piece will make it impossible to do it single-handedly. Set aside all loose parts in a box and be sure to label it. Remove the bumpers and felt to expose the wood. Use a staple remover to remove the felt from the table. Be careful not to rip the felt, especially near the pockets.

Next, use a drill to remove screws holding the slate to the table. Remember that slate is extremely heavy as well as fragile. Get your friends to help you move the two or three blocks of slate. Wrap each piece with a furniture pad and stretch wrap and place it carefully on edge inside the moving vehicle. Do not lean or stack any other items against slate.

At this point each person can grab a leg of the table and flip it upside down. Remove the legs from the frame of the table the remove the pocket pouches. Now that the table is completely broken down, wrap each section in furniture padding and stretch wrap keep the wood from being scratched, chipped, or damaged. Keep the frame of the table upside down as you load it onto the truck so that you will not need to flip it over again for assembly. Reverse the process to assemble the table at the ending location.

Sacramento Movers Offer Tips For Finding The Right Senior Housing

The transition from living alone or living with family into a senior apartment or assisted living facility is a big change and one that should be carefully considered before making a decision. There are so many factors to consider when determining what will be a good fit for a senior loved one. For example, is the care home set in a convenient location? Does the facility have a good reputation and do they offer the senior special assistance if needed? Look into a few key considerations before settling on a senior facility.

Location. Consider where the senior apartments or assisted living facility is located. Are there convenience stores, coffee shops, or medical offices nearby that can easily be accessed? Is the care home close enough to family that visits will be easy to carry out regularly? It’s important that the senior does not feel too far away from loved ones or needed resources, causing them to feel isolated.

Reputation. Before deciding on a facility, look into its reputation. Find out how it is rated on the Better Business Bureau and look into its history to find any records of abuse or malpractice. Also find out what procedures are in place for handling disputes. If problems do arise, who will you contact and what can be done to rectify the situation? Knowing these details in advance will help you feel comfortable with leaving a loved one at a specific care home and knowing which homes to avoid.

Special Assistance. Find out what extra care can be offered to residents. Are medical personnel available at all times? Can seniors with minimal mobility receive help in an emergency? Is physical therapy offered or are light exercise programs in place to help seniors stay physically active.

Quality of Living. Ask yourself, would I want to live here? There are some senior residences that feel like a classy resort which you would not mind staying in for an extended period.  There are others that you’d rather hurry to leave. Be mindful of this when selecting a residence for your loved one. Ask if you could sit in on a meal to find out how the food is. Find out what events and activities are available for seniors to participate in. Are there bingo nights or outings to theater performances? If your senior wants to stay active and engaged, these extra events will be especially important to them.

Although saving money can be appealing, it’s important to know what it is that you are paying for, as not all senior homes are alike. Find out what it is that is most important to you and your senior and be sure that the senior apartment or assisted living facility meets the criteria you set.

Sacramento Movers Talk About Protecting The Floor During A Move

It’s important to take extra care when moving items over a wood or linoleum surface. Heavy appliances or furniture with rough edges can easily scratch the finish off of the wood or linoleum. Rugs can be damaged beyond repair if they are not handled the right way during a move. Learn a few quick ways you can prevent damage to your flooring during a move.

Linoleum
Do not slide furniture or appliances across a linoleum floor. If you must slide a refrigerator into place or rotate a large piece on the entry way landing, then be sure to cover the linoleum with an appliance mat or a section of cardboard to protect the linoleum’s shiny surface. Spin the mat or cardboard with the item on top of it so that the item does not shift partially onto the bare linoleum. Also keep in mind that linoleum can be easily torn if you attempt to turn a refrigerator’s wheels sideways as they only roll forward and backward.

Wood
The first and simplest way to protect wood floors is to set a doormat at each entrance to the home to capture as much exterior dirt and debris as possible. Next, place a neoprene runner or Rosin over the wood to cushion and protect the surface of the wood. Lay plywood in the pathway leading to the kitchen where appliances will be unloaded. After removing the plywood or any other floor covering, sweep the wood flooring or mop to remove any dust or dirt that made its way in.

Carpet & Rugs
Rugs, being detachable from the home, are usually moved along with the furniture and household goods. Just be sure to always roll them; never fold them when preparing to load the rug onto the moving truck. When you roll it, make sure the underside of the rug is facing out. Carpets are a little harder to keep clean during a move. The best thing to use is an adhesive, non-slip carpet cover such as a plastic film or a neoprene runner. This keeps the carpet dry and clean. Alternate materials that can be used include strips of loose carpet (leftovers from a recent carpeting job), sections of cardboard, or painters’ drop cloths. The biggest problem with these alternate materials is that they are not non-slip. If you choose to use one of these, be sure to secure each section down so that the movers do not slip while carrying your belongings causing injury to the mover and damage to your items.
