What A Move With TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Looks Like In Pictures

Photos speak 1,000 words so we thought rather than tell you about what it's like to move with professional mover, we would just show you! These photos were taken on an actual move for a local, Greater Sacramento area customer. So for those of you who prefer visuals to text, here's a post just for you -  what a move with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® looks like in pictures:

Step 1: Our professional movers arrive in the classic TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® moving truck.

Step 2: Our Trucks are clean inside and out and are fully equipped with all needed moving equipment such as furniture pads, stretch wrap, furniture dollies, and a tool box.

Step 3: Before doing any packing or loading, a neoprene runner is set down in the entryway to prevent dirt or moisture from being tracked into the home. Furniture pads are attached to the door frame to protect against scratches.

Step 4: If the customer needs help packing, our movers are trained to pack household goods carefully.

Step 5: Any large furniture will be padded and stretch wrapped by our movers before being loaded onto the truck. This process protects each piece from being scratched or chipped.

Step 6: If any furniture needs to be disassembled, our movers are equipped with a standard toolbox and can disassemble large pieces such as bed frames and tables then reassemble them upon arrival.

Step 7: Tight corners? no problem! We can carefully maneuver pieces around corners or wrap-around staircases.

Step 8: Movers can carefully stack and tier boxes to fit efficiently in the truck.

Step 9: The movers will drive the loaded truck directly to the drop-off location and proceed to unload each item as carefully as it was loaded.

Step 10: After unloading the tuck the movers can move pieces of furniture around until everything is set up exactly as you'd like it.

Sacramento Movers Share 5 Ideas For Decorating On A Budget

1. Add a splash of paint
The best way to get bang for your buck when decorating is to use paint. Paint can transform a room like no other decorating medium. Keep in mind you will need one gallon of paint for every 350 square feet of wall to be painted. A gallon of paint averages $15-$30 depending on the brand. Remember that the cheaper brands will often need several coats of paint for a complete coverage while a $25 brand may only need one coat for a finished look, so cheaper is not always really cheaper! Be sure to get the right tools for the job including brushes, rollers, masking tape and drip clothes. However if you’re just painting a couple walls you can still get the job done with under $100 to spend. You will be amazed how much paint alone will change the whole look of a room.

2. Go “green” to save “green” on furniture
Rather than spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on new furniture… look for antiques or second hand finds at a thrift store, garage sale or Craigslist. Reuse these finds in a new way. Touch up the finish or paint, reupholster the cushions or just leave it as you found it. A little wood glue and touch up paint can go a long way when freshening up second-hand furniture. You can also change the look of furniture you currently own by refinishing, repainting, or covering it up with a slip cover. An ugly couch can look much better with a fresh slip cover over it.

3. Brighten up the scene
Sometimes all you need is the right lighting to make a room look truly great. Strategically placed lights can work wonders at highlighting certain areas of the room such as the “social areas” where conversations take place. If installing permanent fixtures is out of the budget, make use of floor lamps and table lamps or simply use a higher wattage bulb in an existing lamp. Clear Christmas lights can be strung along door frames or coiled artistically in clear vases for a unique lighting solution.

4. Curtains on the cheap
Create your own curtains using bed sheets or a fabric you selected at the fabric store. Choose any color or style you want and simply finish the edges of each panel then fold the top down a couple inches and sew a loop for the rod to fit through. Add curtains to every window for a little extra visual appeal.

5. Finishing touches
Use spray paint to change the color of decorative objects or knick-knacks. You may already have these items around your house or you might find them at a thrift store. You might use bird figurines, candle holders, flower pots, or even pine cones. Choose a bright, bold spray paint that matches the decorating theme of the room and evenly coat each piece. Arrange these ornaments in clusters on the dining table, coffee table or intersperse with books along a book shelf.

Sacramento Movers Share 8 Safety Tips For Driving A Rental Truck

For many people who do a self-move, one of the challenges is driving the rented moving truck. Challenges arise in that this vehicle is much bigger and heavier than the average car as well as lacking a rear view. When it’s time to get behind the wheel of a moving truck be sure to follow a few safety guidelines.

1. Beware of turns. Since moving trucks and trailers are longer and wider than the average vehicle, it’s important to give yourself a little extra room on turns.

2. Decrease speed. Pushing the speed limit in the fast lane is not such a good idea with moving trucks and trailers. Keep in the right hand lanes and watch for sign indicating what the speed limit for trucks is in that area.

3. Increase the space cushion. Larger vehicles take longer to slow down, especially if they are burdened with a heavy load. Increase the follow distance from the vehicle ahead of you so that if any sudden stops occur you will have time to slow down and avoid rear end collisions.

4. Break early. Be conscious of upcoming stops or slowdowns. Begin to break earlier than you would in a car.

5. Use a spotter. It’s always wise to have someone in the passenger seat who can help navigate as well as direct you in and out of parking spaces. Anytime you must back up, your spotter should stand behind the truck and help guide you.

6. Watch overhead clearances. Beware of low canopies, overpasses, bridges, drive-thru restaurants and banks, tree branches, and parking garages. Watch out for signs prohibiting truck traffic. Find out how tall the truck you are driving is and look out for signs signaling what clearance is permitted.

7. Watch for road signs. Pay attention to signs including truck weigh stations and check brakes signs.

8. Parking and safety cones. If possible park the truck in drive-through parking spaces. If none are available and a regular parking space is all that is available, try to find one out of the way so that you do not obstruct traffic. Use safety cones anytime the truck is parked in an unusual spot or anywhere that may obstruct traffic. Don’t forget to set the emergency break!

Sacramento Movers Share How To Organize A Utility Closet

Every home has one. It is that neglected corner in the garage or the coat closet under the stairs. It is a clutter magnet where everything that doesn't have a “home” ends up. If you open the closet door you might find toys the kids have long grown out of, house cleaning materials such as detergents, mops and dust pans as well as space heaters and fans. This closet can be quite a mess and merely finding what you are looking for can be a challenge. Take the time to transform this catchall closet into a tidy, efficient utility closet. Once you have taken the time to straighten things up, eliminate clutter and implement an organization system, the time saved later on will make the task well worth doing.

Purge the clutter. Before doing any organizing, remove all items that don’t need to be there. Get rid of toys the kids have outgrown, clothing that is never worn, leftover paint, or any other items you are not likely to use again soon. Donate items to charity, sell in a garage sale, or simply throw out these unwanted items.

Draw up a plan. Like any well-thought organization system or interior design plan, it’s always a good idea to map out a plan for the utility closet. Take measurements of the closet and use graph paper to draw a scaled-down blueprint for the closet. Draw a space for the vacuum cleaner to stand. Add any drawers or shelving units and label what each shelf will contain. Remember to plan for every-day essentials to be set at eye-level so that they are easy to see and reach.

Keep like items together. For example keep all the cleaning detergents on the same area of a shelf or in a drawer all together. Keep pet food together on a lower shelf. Store bulk purchases, craft supplies and miscellaneous items such as spare batteries in this closet.

Don’t forget to look up. Oftentimes closets will have a couple feet of open space between the top shelf and the ceiling. Don’t let this space go to waste. Store large, lightweight items here and keep a stool or small step ladder in the closet so that you can easily reach up and grab these items when needed. Suitcases and duffle bags can be stored on this top shelf as they are rather light when empty but take up plenty of space. They also are not frequently used which makes this overhead storage area perfect for them. Alternately you can store spare gift wrap and tissue paper in plastic craft bins on these higher shelf or even holiday decorations. Or use this area to store spare bed and bathroom linens.

Use the walls. Empty walls can be a great space to a broom, dust pan, mop and aprons. Storing each of these items on hooks in the wall will lift them off the floor, reducing clutter build up.

Utilize storage containers to keep things neat and tidy and in a proper “home.” Place paper towels, extra toilet paper, dust cloths, and garbage bags in separate boxes, jars or cubbies. Use shoe storage containers to store a collection of similar items such as light bulbs, extension cords, and extra tape.

Keep paperwork and reminders tidy. Create a file for important papers including recent and upcoming bills and bank statements, warranties, medical and school records. Create a space to place reminders such as a dry erase board or cork bulletin board where you can post invitations, reminders to take the trash out, and a calendar. Keep business cards on the board for often used services such as the maintenance man, or pizza delivery.

Sacramento Movers Say Proper Packing Makes All The Difference

When preparing for a move, there are easy tips to follow to ensure your belongings arrive in the same condition as they were prior to packing. For example, when packing breakable items it’s wise to use bubble wrap and plain professional packing paper. Never use newspaper because the ink can bleed. Packing can make all the difference.

When packing, the experts at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® recommend keeping these tips in mind:

·         Use only small boxes for books. They get very heavy, very fast.
·         Try to pack all electronic equipment such as stereos in their original boxes. Otherwise use low-static bubble wrap when packing these items.
·         Always place dishes upwards when packing.
·         All boxes need to be closed and sealed with packing tape. Never use duct tape and don’t interlock the tops.
·         Pack important and sentimental documents separately so it’s easily accessible, including children’s health records, passports, family records, insurance information and photo albums.
·         Pack a box of essential items you will need immediately after the move. Make sure it’s the last thing added to the truck.
·         Don’t use laundry baskets or bags to pack belongings.
·         Always pack and unpack breakables over a padded surface to reduce the chance of breakage.
·         Remember: the heavier the item, the smaller the box.

Taking the time to efficiently pack will save time and energy in the end. Following proper wrapping, padding and boxing procedures are vital to protect your belongings and make your move a success.
