The planning, the booking, making reservations and don’t forget all that packing and organizing. Whether it’s a big move across the country or just a small move down the street, it can be one of the most stressful events in your life. Here are some helpful tips and check lists to keep in mind for an easier move and a calmer conscience.
Calm Mind and Body:
- Eliminate the clutter. Your mind is running all time and this can cause an overactive mind to stress. Apply your spring cleaning methods to all aspects in your life. Clear and scrub; clean not just your room, but also with work, friends and family. Forgive and forget. You want everyone on your team right now.
- Meditate. Clear your predominant thoughts. Alleviate your daily tensions and improve your focus for a good night’s sleep and an energized day tomorrow.
- Getting good sleep. Well-planned strategies are essential to deep, restorative sleep you can count on, night after night. Start by setting a regular bed time, and getting up at the same time everyday. Increase light exposure during the day and boost melatonin levels at night (by turning off electronics in the surrounding area).
- Relax. Try reading a book before bed, or going on a walk to clear your mind. Enjoying hobbies and doing activities that you enjoy regularly.
- Make lists. By making to-do lists for the next day, your mind can stop trying to focus on remembering what you need to get done and center in on what you can do right now. Plus! The physical act of crossing things off when you finish them feels so satisfying.
- Breathe. When you are starting to feel frustrated and at wits end, remember to breathe in and out deeply to open up the flow of oxygen.
Make a Moving
Checklist:
- Start to clean out closets, the garage, and attic
- Host a garage sale or donate your unwanted things to charity
- Get change of address cards, notify magazines, charge accounts, insurance companies and all other organizations
- Schedule disconnects for gas, electric, water and the telephone. Arrange for refunds that are due and schedule connections for your new home
- Make an essentials package for last minute cleaning and another for your first night in the new house
Conscience Reminder: If
you do not go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you do not ask, the
answer will always be no. And if you do not step forward, you will always be in
the same place.
